Non-Denominational Statement of Faith
At Comenius Academy, our Statement of Faith is the basis of all that we believe, teach, and seek to accomplish. It is more than a list of beliefs; It is a statement of truth that informs our worldview, informs our teaching, and grounds our community in God’s Word. Amid a constantly changing societal landscape, we hold strongly to biblical truths regarding who God is, who we are in Him, and how we are called to live. Every class, every relationship, and every decision is made with a common faith, for the glory of God, and the purpose of preparing students for what God has intended for their lives.
I. The Bible
We believe that The Bible is the infallible Word of God. The Bible is the complete and final revelation of God concerning all matters of faith, truth, and practice. The Bible provides the basis for all instruction at the Comenius Academy.
II. The Trinity
We believe there is One God (having one mind, one will, and one power) who is the Creator of all things and eternally existing in three equally divine persons: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.
III. God, The Father
We believe God, The Father, is sovereign in creation, providence, and redemption. As Creator, He is Father to all men, but He is spiritually Father only to believers.
IV. God, The Son
We believe God, The Son, Jesus Christ, is fully God, and fully man. He was sent by The Father, conceived by The Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless, sacrificial life, died on the Cross as a substitutionary sacrifice, and raised from the dead. He will return in glory to receive His Church, establish His millennial kingdom on earth, and judge all mankind for their sin and rebellion.
V. The Holy Spirit
We believe The Holy Spirit is fully God. He brings evidence of God’s presence to the world and works to execute His will. We recognize His sovereign activity in creation, the Incarnation, the written Word of God and the work of salvation. The Holy Spirit regenerates and baptizes all believers into the body of Christ at conversion. The Holy Spirit instructs, provides assurance of salvation, teaches, guides, and empowers all believers. The Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts to the Church for edification and service, uniting them to one another in Christ.
VI. Salvation
We believe salvation is wholly the work of God by grace, through faith, and only upon the work and merits of Jesus Christ—both His life of perfect righteousness and His atoning blood and not on the basis of any human merit or works.
We believe that mankind was originally created in God’s image and likeness, but fell into disobedience and sin, thereby incurring both physical and spiritual death. All people are born with a sin nature and are separated from the life of God and can be saved only through the atoning work of the Lord, Jesus Christ.
We believe all those who repent, believe and surrender to Jesus Christ as both Lord and Savior are born again of the Holy Spirit, delivered from the dominion of darkness, transferred into the Kingdom of God’s Son, granted the gift of eternal life, adopted as the children of God, fully empowered for Christian living, and sealed until the day of redemption.
VII. The Church
We believe that the Church is made up of all Christians from all-time who, through grace and faith alone in Jesus Christ alone are being transformed by the Holy Spirit and are united together as one body, visibly found in imperfect local congregations with Christ as the Head.
VIII. Eternity
We believe there will be a bodily resurrection of the saved and the unsaved. For the saved, all believers will enter the eternal state of glory with God after the elements of the earth are dissolved and replaced with a new heaven and new earth and a new heavenly city which will be the dwelling place of redeemed people forever and ever. For the unsaved, there will be a resurrection unto judgment of eternal separation from God and
conscious punishment.
IX. Family and Community
We believe that God desires believers to join in Christian love and spiritual unity in the name of Jesus Christ. We believe that the biblical family is the most important building block for human society and as such, it should be nurtured, protected and perpetuated. We believe that marriage and family are divinely created institutions for the benefit of all mankind and should be treated with the utmost respect and integrity. We believe that from the beginning God created a complimentary design for male and female and ordained marriage as only between one man and one woman. All sexual activity outside this biblical definition of marriage is in contradiction of God’s Word and His intention for the institution of the home.
X. The Purpose of Mankind
We believe God’s intention for the creation of mankind was that men and women would glorify God, enjoy God’s fellowship, live a life honoring to Him and by this accomplish God’s purposes in the World.
